The Earthquake Early Warning system provides instant analysis of earthquakes in and near Japan. Depending on a person’s location, it enables warnings before an earthquake is felt, ranging from a few seconds up to a minute.

However, because the system is automatic and does not have time to fully analyze the data, it is prone to errors. The initial alert may display higher or lower magnitudes, but in most cases this is updated within a few seconds.
